Pierre Fauchard
Pierre Fauchard was a French physician that lived from 1678 to 1761. He was named the "Father of Modern Dentisry," and quickly became interested in the orthodontic side of teeth at the young age of fifteen. Alexander Poteleret was a major influence for Fauchard, and inspired him to become interested in the mouth and the diseases it carried. He learned soon after about the problems the sailors and people from the army were having concerning their jaw and curvy teeth structure. A few years into adulthood, Fauchard took off with dentistry. He was considered a skilled surgeon and often performed procedures dealing with cavities. He first made the call that braces should be put on children as early as possible as their roots are more susceptible to being moved, unlike adults. He was a man of dentistry but he also led orthodontics to what it is today.
